π How to Use Live Translation with AirPods
Live Translation lets you translate spoken conversations in real time using your AirPods and iPad or iPhone. This guide walks you through setup and usage.
β Requirements
AirPods Pro (2nd or 3rd Gen) or AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation
iPad or iPhone on iPadOS/iOS 26
Apple Intelligence enabled (Settings β General β Apple Intelligence)
Translate app installed
Spanish language downloaded in the Translate app
π οΈ Step 1. Update and pair
Make sure your iPhone or iPad is updated to iOS/iPadOS 26.
Pair your AirPods by opening the case near your device and following the prompts.
Confirm AirPods are running the latest firmware (Settings β Bluetooth β tap β β check Version).
π Step 2. Enable Apple Intelligence
Open Settings β General β Apple Intelligence.
Turn it ON and follow any setup prompts.
π₯ Step 3. Download Spanish
Open the Translate app.
Tap the Download Languages option (bottom or side menu).
Find Spanish and tap Download.
Wait until it shows as available offline.
π§ Step 4. Start a live conversation
Put in your AirPods.
Open the Translate app.
Tap Conversation Mode.
Select Spanish β English (or your preferred language pair).
Hand your device between speakers, or place it between you during the conversation.
When you (English speaker) talk:
The iPad/iPhone will translate to Spanish on screen and through device audio.
Your partner will hear it in Spanish if using AirPods, or see/hear it from the device.
When they (Spanish speaker) talk:
The iPad/iPhone will translate to English and play it in your AirPods.
π Step 5. Using on calls (optional)
Go to Settings β Phone β Live Translation and enable it.
When youβre on a phone call with AirPods in, tap the Translate button.
Choose Spanish β English.
Both sides will hear real-time translations.

Works best in quiet environments (background noise can interfere).
Currently supported languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil). More are coming soon.
Some features require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. On iPad, youβll always use the Translate app directly.
