External eMail Banner:
A warning banner has been inserted into all emails received from external email senders.
This banner is intended to help you better identify senders as non-Questar staff and hopefully avoid phishing scams where malicious emails are crafted to impersonate you or your coworkers. If you do happen to receive an email from someone who appears to be a Questar staff member, but includes this banner, please use your Phish Alert button to report it to IT for closer inspection.
Email Attachment Scanning:
We will also be enabling an email setting that will begin performing a deeper level of malicious file attachment scanning for all inbound emails. This setting will immediately deliver the email message to your inbox with only a temporary placeholder file where you would typically find the file attachment. If you are quick enough to open the email before the scan is complete, you will see the temporary placeholder file which appears as the following:
Once the scan is finished, which typically takes between 30-60 seconds to complete, and no malicious files are found, the file will be automatically reattached to the email. If the email is left open before the scan is complete, you will need to close it in order for the placeholder file to be removed and the original file to be inserted. If a malicious file attachment is found during the scan, it will remain blocked and the IT Department will be automatically notified.
Protected View:
For Windows 10 PCs only, once enabled, the Protected View setting will begin opening your files in a read-only mode to help protect against and prevent malicious files from executing and compromising your machine or the connected network. Depending on where the file is opened from, you may encounter any of the various prompts below. Please pay attention to these prompts and use caution when opening files, even from known sources. If no changes or edits are necessary to the file, we highly recommend that you leave it in this Protected View mode. If you have any questions regarding the validity or level of safety of any files that you encounter, please reach out to the Help Desk for assistance.
